Celebrity TV host Willie Revillame has kept his promise of giving cash aid to the jeepney drivers displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Facebook post by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Revillame started distributing the P5 million worth of cash donations to the drivers of the of the Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ) at the LTFRB office in Quezon City on Wednesday, August 19.

Aside from the financial assistance, Revillame who is fondly known as Kuya Wil, also donated sacks of rice and his signature Wowowin jackets among the 3,211 jeepney drivers.

“Sa kabuuan, nasa 3,211 na drayber ang makikinabang sa ayuda na galing sa TV host at may kaakibat ding sako-sakong bigas,” said LTFRB.

The TV host announced earlier this month that he would extend financial assistance to jeepney drivers, families of OFWs killed in the Beirut blast, from his own savings, saying that he wants to help as he’s been “blessed enough” to continue working amid the health crisis via his GMA 7 show Wowowin-Tutok To Win.

“Inayos po ito ng aming team kasama ng LTFRB. Ginagawa ko ito dahil inangat niyo ako. Alam ko kung pa’no mahirapan. Hanggang kaya ko tutulong ako.”

Revillame also pledged to donate another P5 million in September to another set of jeepney drivers.
