This family from Pasig wowed netizens with their unique way of managing their own pancitan in Quezon City.
“Parang ‘di kami nagtatrabaho kasi magkakasama.Nung nagsisimula kami sabi ko, ‘okay lang kahit maliit na tubo lang or kahit na hindi pa ganon kalakas, kasi dito, the fact na magkakasama tayo, panalo na,’” 26-year-old Golderick Bating Ambas told The Philippine STAR.
Every day, the Ambas family works together to manage their mini business.
“Ang task ng aking itay ay tagahugas ng pinggan at tsaka tagawalis. ‘Yung dalawa ko namang kuya, sila ‘yung assigned sa delivery tsaka sa pamamalengke, sa logistics. Si Baba, my pamangkin, siya naman tumutulong dahil bakasyon ngayon sa eskwela, sa pagse-serve sa pagbibigay ng orders sa customer, minsan naghuhugas din siya ng pinggan, [kapalit] ng meryenda,” he shared.
“‘Yung ate ko naman, siya ‘yung assistant cook ni inay. Assigned naman siya sa packaging tsaka dun sa mga ibang niluluto. Ako naman ‘yung assigned sa branding, marketing tsaka sa social media. Ako ‘yung sumasagot sa FB page namin kapag may umoorder,” he added.
Their family originally came from Quezon Province. Golderick’s Nanay Amalia used to cook pancit in an eatery, while his father worked part-time delivering different fresh goods in Manila.
Golderick graduated magna cum laude in 2016 with a degree in financial management.
“Sinwerte kasi naka-graduate as magna cum laude. Sabi ko, ‘Para mas sulit ‘yung paghihirap ni inay, susuklian ko ‘yun ng pag-aaral nang mabuti.’ Nung gumraduate ako sinuot ko sa kanya ‘yung toga tsaka ‘yung medalya,” he recalled.
After graduating from college, Golderick worked for several years to earn money and finance their family’s dream business.
“Nakita ko ‘yung hirap ng nanay ko, kung paano siya nagsasakripisyo sa amin. Kaya pinangako ko sa sarili ko na ‘pag nakagraduate ako ng kolehiyo, magkakaroon din kami ng sarili naming negosyo,” he noted.
After five years, he was able to fulfill his promise to Nanay Amalia. They opened their business on June 1, 2023 in Project 4, Quezon City.
According to Nanay Amalia, she was so happy when her son Golderick said that they would start their own business and she would be the head cook.
“Masaya. Okay na ako sa binigay sa ‘kin ng anak kong bunso na kami’y sama-sama sa ating negosyo, tulong-tulong kami. Kami’y sama-sama na mag-anak.Kampante ang loob ko na ‘yung mga anak ko ay kasama ko sa maghapon. Dito kami, hindi kami nagkakahiwa-hiwalay,” she said.
“Ang favorite ko is araw-araw ko na natitikman luto ng nanay ko kasi diba, dati kasi nasa probinsya lang siya, ako lang nandito sa Maynila,” Golderick revealed.
Golderick admitted that he had reservations in spending his P50,000 savings to jump start the business in the middle of the pandemic.
“Hindi ko inakala ‘yung P50,000 ko ‘yun lang pala mabibili niya. Natakot ako, sabi ko, ‘Hindi pa rin pala talaga pwedeng mag-full time agad here.’ Kaya I do freelance para makapagpundar pa kami ta’s palakihin pa namin ‘yung negosyo,” he said.
Fortunately, their business picked up, thanks to social media!
“Dahil sa social media, especially TikTok,ng dami bumibisita sa amin ngayon. ‘Yung iba galing pa ng Makati, ‘yung iba galing ng Parañaque, eh QC kami, talagang dinadayo nila kami para lang matikman ‘yung luto ng nanay ko,” Golderick said.
“‘Yung pinanghahawakan ko talaga na prinsipyo sa buhay, ‘All things work together for good.’ Ibig sabihin, kahit na naghihirap ka ngayon, or watak-watak kayong pamilya, or feeling mo namamali ka ng landas, lahat ‘yan may dahilan because it will lead you to a beautiful story someday,” he stressed when he looked back on his family’s journey.
