A viral post has sparked buzz that actress and P-pop soloist Vivoree Esclito has been chosen to play the Filipino superhero Wave in Marvel’s Agents of Atlas.
Back in 2023, Geekosity reported that Marvel was searching for a Bisaya actress in her 20s for the role. The late Marvel insider Mikey Sutton, who ran the site, even hinted that Wave and the Agents of Atlas could debut in the Shang-Chi sequel.
That description seems tailor-made for Vivoree. Born and raised in Bohol, just next to Wave’s home turf of Mactan, Cebu, the actress turned 25 last August 3.
Who is Wave?
Wave, real name Pearl Pangan, made her comic book debut in New Agents of Atlas Vol. 1 (2019). Created by Greg Pak and Cebuano artist Leinil Yu, she is Marvel’s first Bisaya superhero.
A gifted swimmer from Mactan, Pearl’s Olympic dreams were cut short due to financial struggles. She later gained hydrokinesis (the ability to control water) through a shady company called AlonTech, before breaking away to join the Agents of Atlas.
In the comics, she even saved Cebu when Thor’s foe Sindr tried to invade Asia.
Why Vivoree fits the role
Fans note that Vivoree checks almost every box Marvel reportedly wanted. She’s a native Bisaya speaker, just like Wave, and has shown her fluency onscreen in The Iron Heart and on Melai Cantiveros’ Bisaya talk show Kuan on One.
Visually, her morena beauty mirrors Wave’s look—fans point out that the resemblance is striking.
Beyond appearances, Vivoree has proven her acting chops. Blogger Rod Magaru praised her for being “consistently charming in any role” in his review of Ghosting. She’s also athletic (placing in the Star Magic Games’ Mythical Six for volleyball) and has a strong track record of charity work, from donating school supplies to Aeta communities to canceling her own birthday celebration to help typhoon victims.
She’s also one of the few mainstream Filipino celebrities to openly support movements like Black Lives Matter and Palestine.
Is it confirmed?
As exciting as this sounds, there’s still no confirmation from Marvel about an Agents of Atlas project—or Vivoree’s involvement. The viral post is fanmade, but insiders like Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez continue to hint that the team could appear in Shang-Chi 2.
What’s next for Vivoree?
While Marvel rumors swirl, Vivoree can be seen in Netflix’s One-Hit Wonder as ’90s pop star Jocelyn Alvarez (released August 21), and in Wish Date: Love Tales (August 17), where she also performed the exclusive track “My Heart Promises.”
For now, it’s just speculation—but if Marvel really is looking for a Bisaya actress in her 20s, fans say Vivoree Esclito might be the perfect Wave.
