Amid Senate probe into anomalous flood control projects, Senator Imee Marcos briefly shifted the spotlight, not with a speech, but with her choice of accessory: a small handbag designed to look like a crocodile.
The quirky brown purse quickly became the center of attention when Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri paused in the middle of the proceedings to comment on it.
“I’d just also like to make special mention of the bag of Senator Imee Marcos,” Zubiri said. “I have never seen such kind of unique bag. It can be focused. Does that have a name?”
Marcos, smiling, simply placed the crocodile-shaped bag to her side. Later that day, she posted on Facebook with a lighthearted remark: “Lahat nakaabang kung sino na ang mga bagong pinuno ng mga komite sa Senado ngayong Martes, Setyembre 9, pero agaw eksena talaga masyado ang BB bag na dala ko.”
Online, “BB bag” (short for Bébé Bandoulière) is a fashion term often used to describe a small to medium-sized handbag. Marcos played along with the moment by joking that she had “caught a buwaya,” a witty reference to the Filipino slang that likens crocodiles to corruption and greed.
In another post, she revealed where she bought the viral item in a shopping app Temu: “SA TEMU KO PO NABILI SI BB.”
The crocodile bag, which gained popularity shortly after the session, was a playful accessory that sparked conversation both inside the Senate chamber and across social media.
