Jimin of K-pop supergroup BTS was recently caught in a dating scandal with South Korean actress Song Da Eun after videos from their time as a couple resurfaced online.
The issue sparked after Da Eun uploaded a video on her TikTok account supposedy showing Jimin arriving at what appears to be her residence.
In the clip, the actress is seen waiting by an elevator before surprising the BTS member as he stepped out from it. Appearing startled, Jimin can be heard reacting to Da Eun, “Did you know I was coming in? I purposely didn’t tell you I was on my way”, as translated by Korea Times.
The video quickly went viral online as it implied the two entered the residence together, fueling curiosity about their relationship which had long been hounded by dating speculations since 2022, often sparked by the actress’ cryptic social media posts.
Amidst the renewed attention on the pair, multiple Korean news outlets cited insiders claiming that Jimin and Da Eun “dated for a short period of time in the past,” adding that the pictures and videos the actress posted online were “mostly taken in the past”.
On Sunday, Aug. 31, Jimin’s talent agency, BIGHIT MUSIC released an official statement addressing the rumors, describing them as “reckless” and “groundless”.
“We ask that you refrain from making reckless speculations about their private lives. We earnestly request that you also refrain from any actions that could cause harm to the individual who is being mentioned alongside the artist,” the statement began as translated by Soompi.
BIGHIT explained the delay in addressing the issue, saying it had to be done out of respect for both Jimin and Da Eun’s privacy.
“Our company has refrained from making any statements until now in order to respect Jimin’s private life as well as the individual being mentioned in relation to it. However, as speculative reports concerning the artist’s personal life have continued to surface and groundless rumors have been spreading, we find it unavoidable to clarify the bare minimum facts,” it wrote.
The company ultimately confirmed that Jimin and Da Eun once shared mutual affection but clarified that they are no longer together.
“The artist and the individual in question were once acquainted with mutual affection in the past, but that was several years ago, and they are not in a relationship at present,” it confirmed.
Jimin and his fellow members are currently gearing for the release of their upcoming album and world tour next year, following their recent military discharge.
