The pair of boxing gloves used by former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Nicolas Torre in his supposed boxing match with acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte is being sold for P500,000.
Comedian Eric Nicolas appeared in an episode of the YouTube vlog series Pinoy Pawnstars, where he tried to sell Torre’s boxing gloves to host Boss Toyo.
According to Nicolas, the gloves were personally autographed by Torre after he hosted the event where the former PNP chief and Davao mayor were set to face off in a charity match last July. Torre was declared the winner by default after Duterte failed to show up and later withdrew from the bout.
Eric explained that he wanted to sell the gloves to raise funds for two local animal shelters that rescue stray dogs and cats.
“Ayoko ng naka-display lang siya. Gusto ko, katulad ng ginawa nila, may kahihinatnan. May magandang mapupuntahan,” he said
It can be recalled that all proceeds from the charity fight had earlier been reportedly donated to victims of Typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong, and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, according to Torre.
Eric initially priced the gloves at P500,000, but Boss Toyo declined, offering instead P25,000. Nicolas even tried to persuade him, saying, “Ikaw lang ang meron nito. Mula Luzon hanggang Mindanao, ikaw lang. History.”
After consulting with fellow collector Krazy Kyle, who estimated the gloves’ value at P30,000, the two agreed that the item would instead be included in Boss Toyo’s upcoming auction this September.
Eric added that aside from supporting animal shelters, he also plans to share part of the auction proceeds with the National Children’s Hospital.
