Netizens are bringing up an old Instagram post by Mariel Rodriguez that featured sweet photos of her and husband, Senator Robin Padilla, set to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild.”
Originally posted in July, the carousel included snapshots of the couple during a train ride, with Mariel captioning the post, “Away-bati, away-bati,” possibly referring to the ups and downs of their relationship.
What caught online users’ attention, however, was the music that played in the background as the post is viewed. Instagram allows users to pair posts with songs, and it appears that Mariel opted for “Manchild,” a recent release by American pop star Sabrina Carpenter.
According to music site Genius, the track “takes aim at immature men.” Online dictionaries also define “manchild” as a slang term for adult men who “do not behave in the calm, serious, or sensible way that you would expect from someone of his age.”
Another line from the song is: “Stupid or is it slow? Maybe it’s useless? But there’s a cuter word for it, I know—man-child.”
The post went viral after being reposted on X, with two posts gaining over 25,000 likes on the platform combined.
Netizens have since been leaving playful comments across social media.
“AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHZ GRABE SONG CHOICE YAN,” one Instagram user reacted under the comments of Mariel’s post.
“HAHAHHAHAHA na-flex ka nga pero yung song choice naman 👏,” wrote another.
“Aware naman siguro s’ya anong meaning ng ‘Manchild’? 😅” a user on X wondered.
To date, Mariel has not reacted to the comments and has retained the song choice.
