Fans and netizens voiced their concern after a concert-goer climbed up a stage in the middle of OPM artist Maki’s performance at a local music festival.
The incident occured at the last day of the three-day Sarangani Bay Festival 2025, where Maki was among the performers.
In a video that circulated on various social media platforms, Maki was performing his hit song “Dilaw”, when a female fan climbed up the stage and asked for a photo with him, prompting the singer to run away to the band behind him.
“Baba ka ate!”, Maki was heard telling off the woman and calling for his guitarist’s help.
He eventually agreed to taking a photo with the fan on stage as she refused to come down, saying, “Sige na nga”, before jokingly adding, “Baba ka na. Baba na. ‘Di ka naman Maloi eh,” referring to the BINI member who was his leading lady in the song’s music video.
Fans expressed their concerns for the safety of the “Namumula” singer which Maki had reposted on his official X account.
“This happened twice na, can we normalize being respectful to the artist na nagpeperform? Like there is always a right place and a right time to do a photo op. Maki is performing on the stage, and you can’t just go up there to request a photo. 😭 and yet he’s too kind na pagbigyan ka, myghad, if you can’t respect the artist then have some respect to yourself”, an X user wrote.
“Grabe guts ni Ate 🥺 Napatakbo sa gulat si Maki. Mabuti di na pa “Mama” si Maki 😭. Honor their bounderies as you wish yours to be honored. That is called respect po Ate,” commented another.
“Grabe kawawa naman si Maki nagtago pa talaga sa likod ng band pero kudos to him that he handled it well,” a netizen reacted to a Reddit post of the same video.
Maki seemingly addressed the incident on X with his recent post about interacting with his fans and respecting boundaries.
“Hai, I’m ok! ☁️ as much as I want to hold your hands, take pictures and create happy memories with all of you, we have to understand that there’s a right time for that! ☺️,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Maki recently announced that he is gearing up for his latest single, “Kahel Na Langit,” which will reportedly be included in his upcoming full-length album, “Kolorcoaster”.
