JK Labajo fulfills wish of late fan who died at university fire

OPM hitmaker JK Labajo honored his late fan, Trisha Macalagay, who was among the victims of a fire incident in Laguna, by performing her favorite song in his recent show in Laguna.

Macalagay is a 22-year-old biology student and beauty queen from Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU), who died in a fire at her campus on March 13.

In a Facebook post by the late student’s family, it was revealed that Trisha had wanted to attend Anilag Festival where the “Ere” singer was among the performers whom she was a huge fan of. Sadly, she had passed away before the event.

Upon learning that Trisha would have attended his concert had she survived, the singer decided to include Through the Years—a song she loved and one he had covered in his Netflix film “Lolo And The Kid”—in his setlist.

He performed the song, along with his hit single “Buwan”, as a tribute to Trisha during his concert.

Before his performance, JK was approached by Macoy Fernandez, a close friend of Trisha’s family, with a heartfelt request—to have the musician sign Trisha’s photos.

“Dear Juan Karlos, I have a very special task for Trisha Macalagay today and for her bereaved family, it is my mission for you to sign these beautiful portraits of her, as an avid fan of yours it will be her great joy and happiness as she watches over you sing your Rendition of the song ‘Through the years’ alam Ko na suntok sa dilaw na buwan ang kahilingang ito, subalit isang karangalan na maipa abot sa iyo ang kanyang huling kahilingan, ang iyong presensya sa gabing ito ay ang bubuo sa unang pagtitipon Para Kay Trisha,” Fernandez posted on Facebook.

Moved by the request, JK initially hesitated, questioning whether he was worthy of signing her portraits. Touched by his humility, Macoy later shared the encounter, emphasizing how deeply the singer was affected by Trisha’s story.

“So pure in heart and he has tremendous respect for Trisha Macalagay as you can hear on our conversation he was hesitant to sign on top of the picture as he uttered the words “Who am I?” And so with much respect I did not insist for him to sign the other two portraits on top, and let him decide whatever is appropriate,” Fernandez wrote in reshared video of him and JK.

After the show, JK visited Trisha’s wake and personally offered his condolences to her grieving family.

Trisha’s brother, MJ Macalagay, shared a photo of the artist at the wake with the caption: “Bunso alam ko ang saya mo ngayon. 😭 ‘yung ngiti at kilig mo.”

Trisha’s family deeply appreciated JK’s time and gesture, finding comfort in knowing that their daughter’s admiration for him was recognized in such a meaningful way.

“Thank you for making Trisha’s dream come true juan karlos. Such a humble gentleman! Nakaka hanga ka tunay, JK! Watching her dream become a reality gave us a sense of hope and peace. Thank you for bringing so much comfort to our family and mostly to Trisha! 🙏✨”, Elaine Ramos, a relative of Trisha, penned an appreciation post to JK and to those who helped fulfill her wish.

On his official Facebook page, JK also posted a thankful shoutout to his late fan.
