Women’s rights group Gabriela has expressed alarm over recent revelations made by actress Angeli Khang about filming intimate scenes in Vivamax movies.
This development came after Khang admitted in an interview with celebrity host Toni Gonzaga that there were instances where she felt “taken advantage of” by her male co-actors, raising concerns about consent and professional ethics within the industry.
“We are concerned over the recent revelations made by actress Angeli Khang regarding her experiences in the film industry. Her admission of feeling ‘taken advantage of’ while filming… is a manifestation of the pervasive exploitation that women continue to face,” ABS-CBN News quoted Sarah Elago, Gabriela’s legislative consultant and a former House representative of the Kabataan party-list.
“Such behavior is a gross breach of consent and professional ethics that cannot be tolerated in any workplace, especially in an industry with significant influence over societal norms and values,” Elago stressed.
In response, Gabriela announced plans to address Khang’s statements during the upcoming budget deliberations of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
“We will bring these issues to light during the MTRCB’s budget hearing and introduce legislative measures to address women’s concerns in the local entertainment industry,” Elago, stated.
Gabriela has also voiced its support for Khang and other women who have endured similar abuses in the industry.
“We stand in solidarity with Ms. Khang and all women who have experienced such violations,” she added.
