Chino Trinidad, a known figure in the world of sports journalism, has passed away at the age of 56.
His death was confirmed by his daughter, Floresse Trinidad, who shared the sad news with GMA News.
“Yes, we are very sad to share the news of his passing last night, July 13, 2024,” Chino’s daughter stated via an SMS message.
According to the Kapuso news outlet, Trinidad suffered a fatal heart attack on Saturday night while en route to a scheduled meeting at Newport World Resorts with renowned billiards player Efren “Bata” Reyes and other notable personalities.
He reportedly passed away after being rushed to San Juan de Dios Hospital.
In a heartfelt tribute, Chino’s family honored the sports journalist as “a passionate member of the media and sports community.”
“Known to many through his storytelling, he never stopped sharing the greatness of Filipinos,” they shared.
“He was a loving husband and a supportive father. He will truly be missed.”
Fellow sports journalist Bill Velasco also penned a heartfelt message to the late journalist, writing on his Facebook post, “I am beyond broken-hearted at the loss of Manolo Chino Trinidad, my brother, colleague, friend. A fighter, patriot, truth-seeker. There will [never] be another like you. I love you.”
Trinidad made significant contributions to sports journalism during his tenure with GMA Sports as a correspondent and sports analyst.
His dedication and passion for the field were recognized in 2019 when he received a special award for Meritorious Conduct at the Dangal ng Maharlika Awards. He was also celebrated for his efforts in promoting and raising awareness about arnis and Filipino martial arts.
As of now, details regarding his wake have yet to be announced.
