Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro praised online for hands-on response during Typhoon Ulysses

-

Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro drew praise from netizens for personally monitoring his constituents during the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses on Thursday.

Marikina PIO in a Facebook post shared photos of the local chief executive wading through floodwaters in his plain white shirt and black shorts as he made his rounds in the city.

Teodoro was also seen holding on to a walkie talkie and mobile phone as he gave out instructions to city hall officials and staff conducting rescue operations.

“Nilusong na ni Mayor Marcy Teodoro ang baha upang makalabas sa kanyang tahanan at muling makapag-ikot sa lungsod,” Marikina PIO said in a Facebook post.

“Magdamag tinutukan ng Ama ng Lungsod ang kalagayan ng mga evacuees. Siniguro niyang ligtas at maayos ang kanilang kalagayan,” it added.

Netizens, mostly residents, commended the mayor for showing “compassion” for his constituents.

The Marikina mayor earlier went to check the evacuation sites in the local.

Marikina is among the areas hardest hit by Typhoon Ulysses which brought strong winds and heavy rains, causing severe flooding and forcing some residents to climb on to their rooftops.

The Marikina River water level reached 22 meters high, surpassing Typhoon Ondoy’s water level in 2009.

In a Philstar.com report, Teodoro said that around 5,000 families have already been evacuated but appealed for air rescue, if possible, as thousands of households are fully or partially submerged in water.
