Veteran actress Gina Pareño has risen to become a TikTok star at the age of 70, reaching one million followers on the video-sharing platform wildly popular among young people.
Gina, who goes by the username Lola Gets, is known for spreading good vibes and joining several dance challenges on TikTok.
Launched only May this year, Lola Gets’ TikTok account already has over five million likes to date.
Lola Gets revealed in an interview with TikTok Philippines last September that it was her granddaughter who encouraged her to join TikTok, while a nephew helps her with the content.
“Aliw at tsaka good vibes. Ang intensyon mo ay para pasayahin ang mga tao. Dito mo mai-express yung sarili mo na natural na gusto mo. Kaya happy na happy ako sa TikTok,” said Gina on what she loves about TikTok.
In an Instagram post on Friday, Lola Gets expressed her “million” thanks to her followers for making her reach the social media milestone.
“Sobra akong nagulat at nasiyahan. Can you imagine sa edad kong ito, sinamahan nyo ako hanggang sa minutong ito. Tinaas ninyo ang dandamin ko when I felt low. Kayo ang naging gabay ko para sumigla ulit ang aking buhay. Totoo yan! Mula sa aking puso,” wrote Lola Gets.
Lola Gets shared that TikTok has helped her show her true self and do the things she was afraid of doing before on- and off-screen.
“Sobrang masaya ako dahil off cam, mas naging matapang akong ipakita kung sino talaga ako. Yung sobrang happy na sumasayaw o kumakanta. Yung umaarte ng hindi sumasabay sa script. Yung lumalabas sa camera na hindi naka make-up. Nagawa ko yung mga bagay na kinatatakutan ko kapag nasa pinilakang tabig ako.”
