Former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim dies of COVID-19 at 90

Former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim has passed away due to COVID-19. He was 90 years old.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Lim’s grandson Paul Dela Cruz penned a tribute to his lolo, whom he considers as one of the most important persons in his life.

Dela Cruz also thanked those who have offered their prayers for his late grandfather.

“Paalam at maraming salamat mahal kong lolo, tatay, idol, Dirty Harry, katapat Mayor ALFREDO LIM. ??❤️,” he said.

It was just yesterday, August 7, when reports emerged that the Manila ex-mayor was taken to an undisclosed hospital due to COVID-19. Sources told The STAR that he had been hospitalized since last week.

Manila District 1 Councilor Niño dela Cruz, another grandson of Lim, earlier appealed for prayers for the speedy recovery of his grandfather in a Facebook post that was deleted later on.

Ric de Guzman, Lim’s chief of staff, also issued a statement saying that “the mayor is very much alive and (is) in fact making good progress,” to address rumors that he already passed away.

Lim served as a senator back in 2004 to 2007. He was also appointed Secretary of the Interior and Local Government in 2000.

He was a highly decorated Philippine National Police official and National Bureau of Investigation chief before getting elected as Manila mayor twice.
