
The passing of Filipino screen legend and National Artist for Film and Broadcast Nora Aunor has reached international audiences, with global news outlets reporting on her death and legacy.
NBC News, BBC News, CNN International, The Straits Times and the Los Angeles Times were among the foreign media organizations that reported on the passing of the iconic actress, highlighting her immense impact on Philippine cinema and her decades-long career that broke barriers both locally and internationally.
Known as the “Superstar” of Philippine showbiz, Nora passed away on April 16, 2025, at the age of 71 due to acute respiratory failure.
Over her six-decade career, Aunor became known for critically acclaimed roles in films such as Himala (1982), Bona (1980), Thy Womb (2012), and The Flor Contemplacion Story (1995)—the latter of which won her the Best Actress award at the Cairo International Film Festival, making her the first Filipino actor to receive such an honor.
She also starred in iconic TV dramas like “Minsan May Isang Gamu-Gamo,” “Bituin,” and “Sa Ngalan ng Ina,” which showcased her versatility as both a dramatic actress and singer.
Nora’s state funeral will be held on April 22, Tuesday, where she will be laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
