BLACKPINK’s Lisa faces plagiarism claims with ‘Rockstar’ music video

Lisa of K-pop supergroup BLACKPINK is facing allegations of plagiarism over the recently released music video for her solo comeback “Rockstar.”

On social media, Gabriel Moses, who is the director behind American singer-rapper Travis Scott’s “FEIN!” music video, shared a screenshot of a fan’s e-mail accusing the K-pop star of “blatantly imitating your work without giving you credits.”

Moses expressed his dismay in a series of Instagram stories which showed his messages: “I got mad love for my snitches man,” and one that seemed to warn Lisa and her team to take appropriate action “’til the end of the month.”

Another Instagram story showed a screenshot of the apparent visual of Lisa’s “Rockstar” imitated from the “FEIN” music video.

The visual in question is marked at 1:22 to 1:28 from the “FEIN” music video showing the quick pan effect of the camera over kids dressed in white while Lisa’s starts at 1:20 to 1:24 where the camera also rapidly pans over backup dancers wearing white hoodies and the Kpop would later appear in the frame.

In an X post on July 5, Moses revealed that the K-pop idol’s team reached out to his editor to work on the music video, saying that “FEIN!” was the reference but declined.

“They reached out to my editor to work on this btw & Fein was the reference. He said nah & they did it anyway. Enjoy the rest of your day,” claimed Moses.

The Thai Kpop star or her label has yet to comment on the matter.

“Rockstar ” is Lisa’s first music release after establishing her own management label LLOUD earlier this year while having her group activities with BLACKPINK still be managed by YG Entertainment.

Released on June 28, “Rockstar” ranked No. 15 at Spotify’s Global chart, and No.4 at Youtube’s trending music with more than 100 million views, as of Monday, July 15.
