‘‘Wag mo nang pakawalan’: Couple proves happy ending isn’t about having a long-term relationship

This couple from Laguna yet again proved that happy ending isn’t about having long-term relationship before getting married!

Sharmaine Cruz and Alvin Cruz had been in a relationship for less than a year before Alvin proposed to his girlfriend.

“Hindi kami nagligawan, to be honest, ng sobrang tagal.  Diba ‘yung iba papatagalin pa, sabi namin sa isa’t-isa, ‘Let’s not waste time. If we are meant for each other then God will find a way for us.’ If it’s for you then go for it. Sayo na ‘yan eh. ‘Wag mo nang pakawalan. Whether it’s too long or too short in the relationship, as long as you love each other, you respect each other, along the way, God will give you a great foundation,” 31-year-old Sharmaine Cruz told The Philippine STAR.

Kung nakita niyo ang sarili niyo na gusto niyo nang magpakasal o nakita niyo na ito na talaga ‘yung magiging wife ko, bakit niyo pa patatagalin? Pakasalan niyo na!” Alvin echoed.

Shaine and Alvin met in the middle of the pandemic. They first met in 2021 and became official in March 2021.

“The moment na we had our first evening meeting, talagang natulala siya. Ewan ko kung love at first sight pero when I had my first conversation with him, parang sabi ko, ‘Lord, ito ‘yung mga pinagdadasal ko.’  In that very moment, sabi ko, ‘Lord, if this person is for me, please give him to me,’” Shaine recalled.

“To be honest, nung nakilala kita, parang isang linggo pa lang parang gusto na kita pakasalan,” Alvin echoed.

After six months, Alvin decided to propose on September 5, 2021.

Shaine, on the other hand, had four roles at their wedding— bride, wedding planner, host and performer during her wedding last September 2, 2023.

“Simula pa lang po, nakita ko na po sa kanya na napakagaling niya mag-host, mag-organize, kaya hinayaan ko po siya,” said Alvin Cruz.

Sharmaine, a professional event host, has been in the industry for more than 10 years.

“Ang nagtanong lang sa ‘kin kung sinong host, ‘yung mga good friends ko lang, kasi they know my job. Sabi nila, ‘Sinong host mo?’ Sabi ko, ‘Ako.’ ‘Hindi nga?’ ‘Ako nga!’ Tapos parang hindi sila naniniwala. Sa side naman niya, medyo alam pero hindi talaga totally alam na ako ‘yung magho-host. Akala nila nagjojoke kami. Tapos nagulat sila na si Shaine pala ‘yung magho-host talaga,” she shared.

“Last year po, palagi po akong sumasama sa kanya ‘pag may mga events po, wedding events, nakikita ko sa kanya ‘yung parang gusto niya, (Parang I am always happy with hosting), na ‘pag nakikita niya ‘yung bride, ‘pag iniintroduce niya ‘yung bride saka groom, doon ko nakikita na ‘Ay, parang gusto kong (magpropose) during sa paghohost niya,’” Alvin said as he shared the story behind his wedding proposal.

Shaine noted that it was her childhood dream to host her own wedding. But added that it was indeed a challenging role to do on their special day.

“Ako ‘yung nag-v-vo, ako din ‘yung nag-host ng introduction, and all. Pero meron din akong kinuntsaba, my two good friends na host din. Sila ‘yung nagpre-program. Sabi kasi ng sister ko, mukhang hindi mo kakayanin from start to beginning, pre-program.  Kaya ang ginawa namin I had my host for the pre-program and then ‘yung isa naman sumalo sa akin kasi nga nagperform ako. Hindi ko naman pwedeng iintroduce sarili ko kasi it’s a surprise,” said Shaine.

“It’s fulfilling kasi nga I prayed for it and then it happened na, hindi ko. Hindi ko ineexpect na mangyayari siya, na ‘yung sarili kong wedding paghohost-an ko, with lots of energy that I have, sobrang tiring lang talaga, na kahit sobrang tiring niya, very fulfilled naman ‘yung puso,” she added.

Since Alvin works overseas, Shaine focused on planning their wedding months before their newest milestone in life.

“Supportive talaga siya like throughout,” Shaine said.

“Proud na proud po ako sa kanya dahil siya lang din po ang nag-organize sa wedding po namin,” Alvin added.
