‘Baka sabunutan ako ni mama’: Daughter pranks mother to break good news after graduating magna cum laude

-

This daughter from San Juan City came up with a unique way to tell her mother about her latest academic achievement.

With the help of her cousin and brother, Ma. Patricia Pantaleon pulled-off a prank on Mommy Ruby on October 5, 2023.

In the uploaded video on TikTok, Mommy Ruby can be seen talking to a “representative of the school” explaining that her daughter has a remaining balance.

She then messaged Patricia asking why she has a remaining tuition fee balance amounting to P50,000.

“Ma, Napautang ko eh. Kasi akala ko mabibigay agad,” Patricia said in the viral video.

Nasaan ‘yung pera, ilabas mo nasaan?” she added.

Patricia said that she had to act naturally even though she really wanted to laugh upon seeing her mom’s reaction.

After a few minutes, Patricia handed over a piece of paper to her mom.

Mommy Ruby bursts into tears upon seeing her daughter’s new academic achievement.

Mommy Ruby said that she thought that everything was real and was already thinking of a solution to the problem.

Kaya kako nagalit kasi alam kong bayad ako eh, saan mo dinala ‘yung pera, kaya doon ako nagalit. Nagulat ako kaya sabi ko, bakit ganon? [Ngi] singko alam kong bayad ako nun buong sem. Akala ko totoo kaya napatayo ako. tapos Kinabahan ako kasi bigla eh,” Mommy Ruby recalled.

“Pagkakita ko congratulations, magna cum laude, do’n ako nahimasmasan nga, iyak na ko nang iyak,” she added.

Patricia admitted that she was afraid of the initial reaction of her mother.

“Natatawa ako kasi baka mamaya, hala, sabunutan ako ni mama, sampalin ako. It was priceless. Mga pinaghirapan niya siyempre. It was all worth it. ‘Yung medal na ‘yun is para sa kanya rin,” she said.

Patricia’s father works as an overseas Filipino worker in Spain for almost two decades. She was also excited to share the good news.

Patricia graduated with a degree in tourism at the Lyceum of the Philippines University on October 12, 2023. She plans to work in the city local government.
