Simon Cowell says he wanted to give Matty Juniosa two golden buzzers on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’

Filipino singer Matty Juniosa made a standout debut on the latest season of “Britain’s Got Talent” after receiving a coveted Golden Buzzer from judge Simon Cowell.

The 27-year-old performer, introduced on the show as a part-time waiter from the Philippines now based in Glasgow, impressed both the judges and audience with his powerful rendition of “Purple Rain” by 80’s icon Prince.

His soulful take on the classic hit earned a standing ovation, leading to Cowell pressing the Golden Buzzer and sending Juniosa straight to the live shows and bypassing further audition rounds.

“That was so good. You know that was one of my favorite songs,” Cowell told the singer on stage.

Simon also reacted to Matty’s audition video on Facebook, writing, “I love this audition and I could have given him 2 Golden Buzzers. Hope you all love the audition as well.”

Juniosa later celebrated the milestone on social media, sharing photos from his audition. “You know together we’re what?! Golden! Let’s go, Philippines and Glasgow!” he wrote.

Prior to his international breakthrough, Juniosa competed in the inaugural season of “Idol Philippines” in 2019, where he finished in the Top 12.

He later became part of the trio “iDolls” alongside Lucas and Enzo Almario, a group formed after the show concluded. The trio eventually disbanded in 2022 following Juniosa’s move to the United Kingdom to pursue his studies.
