Ara Mina reveals why sister Cristine Reyes was in tears while leaving MMFF awards night

Ara Mina debunked circulating speculations about a video of her sister Cristine Reyes crying as she left the venue of the recently held Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal.

The said video showed Cristine in a white gown shedding tears while leaving Solaire Resort in Parañaque City. Online speculations claimed the actress was tearful after not winning an award.

Cristine who starred in the MMFF 2024 Second Best Picture “The Kingdom,” alongside Piolo Pascual, Vic Sotto, Sid Lucero, also presented the Best Actor in a Supporting Role Award with Sue Ramirez and Yul Servo.

Expressing frustration over the false claims, the actress’ older sister, Ara, took to social media to explain that the reason why Cristine left the awards night crying was because their mom was rushed to the hospital.

“I took this picture around 2:39 a.m. while we were in the ER. Our mom is in the hospital, which is why she left the MMFF Awards Night crying,” Ara shared in an Instagram story on December 30.

“Kaya siya umiiyak paalis ng awards night at di tinapos dahil sinugod nga mom namin sa hospital that night hindi dahil sa hindi siya nanalo or napahiya siya,” Ara further clarified in a Pep report.

The report added that the celebrity siblings’ mom suffered a mild stroke.

“I just saw this I felt bad sa mga ganitong news na di alam ang totoo,” added Ara.

“The Kingdom” took home five awards at the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal, including Second Best Picture, Best Director (Michael Tuviera), Best Production Design (Nestor Abrogena, PDCP), Best Visual Effects (Riot, Inc.) and the Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award.
