Newlyweds Mika Dela Cruz and Nash Aguas revealed how faith led them to the path of marriage, especially during a time when they separated.
The former Goin’ Bulilit stars surprised the public after tying the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony on Saturday, May 18.
In an exclusive interview on news anchor Bernadette Sembrano’s latest vlog, the newlyweds discussed the obstacles they encountered as a couple and how their faith in God brought them back together.
After being in a relationship for six years, it was revealed that Nash and Mika experienced a painful separation.
The actor reflected on the breakup, viewing it as a divine answer to his prayers as he embarked on a spiritual journey.
“Masakit siya. Obviously ‘yung desires ng heart ko against talaga siya, pero alam kong will ni Lord, may peace,” Nash said.
The pair unexpectedly reconnected two months after their split, leading Mika to find peace and let go of her love for Aguas.
“Noong finally wala na siya sa heart ko bigla na lang kaming nagkikita out of nowhere,” she said.
To her surprise, Nash’s family showed up for her birthday, but Nash himself couldn’t make it due to an accident. This series of events left Mika feeling confused and troubled.
In December, Mika earnestly prayed to God, asking if Nash was meant to be her husband. She was surprised by the clarity of the response she received.
“Around December, I asked God, ‘OK na ‘e pero parang binabalik niyo po, siya po ba ‘yung pangalan na sinulat mo katabi ko nu’ng pinanganak mo kami? Is he my husband?'” Mika recalled.
“After asking, ‘Is he my husband?’, I thought, why not ask, ‘Baka po pwedeng siya? Because You know how much I love him. You know how much he loves me. Pero kung hindi, okay lang po.'”
Mika then described the fateful moment that occurred the next morning.
“Nagising ako, nag-vibrate yung phone ko may notification it was him (Nash) nag-message siya sa akin. ‘Hello, good morning, I was convicted by the Holy Spirit to tell this to you.’ Tapos may verse siya inilgay sa dulo. The first word was ‘yes.'”
Reflecting on this, Mika realized the significance of the message, saying, “I asked God, ‘Is he my husband?’ Sinagot Niya ng ‘yes.’ I asked Him, ‘Baka puwedeng siya?’ Sinagot Niya ng ‘Anything in my name and I will do it for you!'”
“Then and there po, alam ko na siya ang mapapangasawa ko.”
Likewise, Nash also received divine confirmation on Christmas morning while doing his devotion.
“Ang pinaka-final is Proverbs 5:18 sabi, ‘Rejoice in the wife of your youth’,” he said, explaining why they chose May 18 for their wedding date.
With this newfound certainty, Nash proposed to Mika on January 4 without a ring, bringing only his Bible.
“Nagpunta ako sa kanya without a ring, I have my Bible with me ‘yun lang. In-explain ko sa kanya everything,” Nash shared.
Mika recounted the intimate proposal in their living room, sharing, “Nag-proposed siya January 4. Nandoon lang kami sa living room, ako nakapambahay lang, tapos dala niya yung iPad niya nag-propose siya with the word of God.”
On May 18, before their wedding, the couple prayed together to thank God.
“It’s our wedding with God. Tapos gusto namin na ma-feel namin presence ni Lord, ‘yung love for each other. We’re not against big weddings, I think it’s our personalities,” Nash explained their chosen setting for the ceremony.
“We wanted to be present po. Na instead of being preoccupied sa sobrang daming guest parang we’re catering to them, we wanted to be able to present with God, kasi nga it’s not just our wedding. Kaming tatlo ang nandoon sa wedding,” added Mika.
