Anne Curtis, Joshua Garcia, Carlo Aquino to lead Phl remake of ‘It’s Okay to Not Be Okay’

It’s finally happening!

Anne Curtis and Joshua Garcia, and Carlo Aquino are starring in the upcoming Filipino adaptation of K-drama series hit “It’s Okay Not To Be Okay”.

The local remake, to be helmed by “Can’t Buy Me Love” director Mae Cruz Alviar, is slated to be released next year and will also be available on streaming platform Netflix.

The South Korean drama which originally starred Kim Soo Hyun, Seo Ye-ji, and Oh Jung-se, centers on  the healing journey of an antisocial children’s book author (played by Yeji), a psych-ward caretaker (played by Soo Hyun), and his brother (played by Jung-se) who has an autism spectrum disorder.

For the Filipino version, Anne will take on the role of Emilia “Mia” Hernandez, Joshua as Patrick “PatPat” Gonzales, and Carlo as Matthew “MatMat” Gonzales.

“It’s definitely worth it!,” Anne said of making her teleserye comeback during the project announcement and cast reveal on Friday night.

“It was an instant yes, because I love the original and I couldn’t let it pass!,” the actress-host related about accepting the project.

Anne also expressed excitement over working for the first time with Joshua, her leading man in the series.

“I’m very excited to see how we can bring out the chemistry together…Kaya natin to!,” Anne told Joshua.

Joshua, meanwhile, admitted he feels excited and nervous at the same time to be working on the series.

“Kasi iba rin ang itatalakay naming istorya, medyo sensitive siya eh,” the actor said, sharing he’s currently preparing for his role physically and mentally.

“Sana mabigyan ko ng justice yung role ko,” he added.

Carlo, on the other hand, said of his role: “I’m up for the challenge. Gusto kong masubukan, gusto kong gawin.”

The trio furthered that they will be undergoing immersions, acting refreshers, and  chemistry workshops in preparation for the project.

“It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” was nominated in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category at the International Emmy Awards in 2021.
