Kapamilya actor-singer Darren Espanto has officially confirmed his previous romantic involvement with Kapuso actress Kyline Alcantara.
In a recent revelation during a Monday episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Darren discussed the nature of his relationship with Kyline, especially after their viral interaction during her guest appearance on the Kapamilya noontime show It’s Showtime.
TV host Boy Abunda asked Darren outright if he and Kyline had been an item.
“What is the true story? Sabihin mo sa akin ang totoo Darren… Naging kayo? It’s answerable by Yes or No,” Abunda pressed the question on the singer.
Darren’s response, while not a direct confirmation, described their past relationship as a youthful romance between them.
“Hindi ko po masagot ng yes or no kasi it was a puppy love kind of thing,” Espanto told Boy.
“But there was?” Boy clarified to which Darren immediately replied, “Opo. Before when we were younger.”
“So it was a formal puppy love relationship,” the host pointed to which Espanto had also agreed.
Darren elaborated on the details, revealing that their relationship lasted for approximately a year and a half.
When questioned about the reason behind their breakup, he cited misunderstandings typical of youthful relationships. However,
“There was some misunderstanding, and then when we were both mature,” Darren explained the reason for their split.
He also emphasized that their breakup didn’t involve any third party.
The singer went on to explain that despite the initial fallout, they managed to reconcile years later, fostering a friendship once again.
“Parang six years later napag-usapan na namin and eventually we became okay with each other again, naging friends ulit kami,” he added.
Shedding light on their recent cryptic exchange during her guesting on It’s Showtime, Darren clarified that she hinted at their past relationship when she uttered the phrase “Kasi nga…”
Additionally, their intertwined connection doesn’t end there, as Darren and Kyline share present relationships with the Kapuso twins, Mavy and Cassy Legaspi.
Darren reiterated that he and Cassy have only been good friends for a long time, ending romance rumors from fans, while Mavy was Kyline’s former reel and real-life partner.
