Box office director Cathy Garcia-Sampana recently aired her statement regarding directing the movies of well-known love team and now ex-couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
According to a previous report by ABS-CBN News, the two were supposed to work together in a comeback movie directed by Garcia-Sampana.
Last December 2022, the director confirmed that a new film starring Kathryn and Daniel was set to start production this year, teasing at the time that it will be “very different” from their past projects.
During the Star Magic screening of Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada’s microfilm Toss Coin on Sunday, Dec. 10, she was asked by the media outlet if the project is now in danger of being discontinued.
Direk Cathy responded, “I am not closing my doors doon sa project na yun. Kasi syempre, who wouldn’t want a KathNiel movie?”
“But maybe, pwedeng ma-delay, pwedeng mausog lang naman,” she added.
“At the end of the day, it’s the call of the management and KathNiel themselves. Basta ako nandito lang ako if they need me to do the film, of course,” Garcia-Sampana said, adding that she respects the decisions of the pair.
She also shared that she was shocked and saddened when the two confirmed their split after being together for 11 years.
“Wala namang hindi malulungkot. Ganun naman ang relationship, I mean I do love stories. So I know may mga ganyang moments,” she said.
Direk Cathy has worked closely with Kathryn and Daniel many times in the past. The pair were also among the celebrity attendees of the director’s wedding last May.
“We can only hope for the best. Basta ako, mahal ko si Kathryn. Mahal ko si Daniel,” she expressed.
“In fact, that’s what I messaged them. After what I heard, I messaged Kathryn and Daniel that I love you. Hindi naman sila sumagot. Alam kong natanggap nila, at alam kong medyo marami nang iniisip, so ayoko nang sumabay pa,” she shared.
After the news of KathNiel’s breakup made waves online, a past interview of Garcia-Sampana resurfaced where she explained the emotional lines of Kathryn’s character in The Hows Of Us, the ex-couple’s last film together.
