‘Unfair and disrespectful’: Family of Rico Yan appeals to public to leave actor in peace

The family of late Rico Yan pleaded to let the matinee idol rest in peace amid declarations made by sexy star Sabrina M about their supposed relationship.

The late actor’s name has recently made showbiz headlines after Sabrina M, or Karen Pallasigue in real life, revealed for the first time that she Rico dated in the past.

“Ito iyong first time na inamin kong nagkaroon kami ng relasyon. After Claudine, naging kami, umabot din ng taon,” Sabrina was quoted as saying in a presscon for her upcoming movie “Manang”.

Sabrina alleged she and Rico chose to hide their romance to ward off criticisms from the public.

However, the camp of Claudine Baretto, Rico’s ex reel and real partner gave Sabrina M a three-day ultimatum to issue a public apology over her claims, with Attorney Ferdie Topacio saying they will file a cyber libel complaint against the sexy star.

“Pinalalabas niya na si Rico Yan ay two-timer at kung alam naman daw ni Claudine ‘yung parang napakababa naman ng moralidad ni Claudine na pumapayag siya na dalawa sila sa buhay ni Rico Yan?,” Topacio said in an interview with veteran columnist Cristy Fermin.

Sabrina, however, said through her legal team from the Knowledge Advocate of Volunteer Lawyers for Free Legal Assistance, that she will not be apologizing over the matter.

“Our client, Sabrina M, will not issue a public apology. The purported offended parties may file a case to assert their rights allegedly violated by Sabrina, in the same vein that cases are now being prepared against certain individuals who, in their attempt to silence Sabrina, intentionally committed criminal acts against her.”

Talent manager and comedian Ogie Diaz, meanwhile, released a statement from Rico’s family asking to leave them and the actor in peace over what they call “unfair and disrespecful” claims,

“It has been 21 years since Rico passed on March 29, 2002. The pain of the family losing a son and a brother has been permanently etched into our being,” Ogie quoted Rico’s mom Teresita Yan as saying in a message sent by the late actor’s brother, Bobby Yan.

The statement further read: “The recent news swirling around Rico is very unfair. He is no longer around to give his comment, to either refute, or deny, or acknowledge the claims. It is not only unfair but disrespectful,” “I ask everyone concerned to please STOP using Rico’s name for their own individual purposes. Please leave Rico and us in peace.”
