GMA Sparkle issues statement as netizens react to David Licauco’s performance at Miss Grand Philippines 2023

Kapuso actor David Licauco, who gained the title “Pambansang Ginoo,” was seemingly not so successful in making his audience swoon with his singing performance during the coronation night of the Miss Grand Philippines 2023.

A video of David serenading the Top 15 candidates of Miss Grand Philippines with the song “Wherever You Will Go” has gone viral after pageant fans expressed their dismay with the actor’s performance.

“ANTAGAL Q NAG INTAY SAYO DAVID LICAUCO MAG VI-VIDEOKE KALANG PALA SA MISS GRAND PHILIPPINES HAHAHA,” a user reacted.

“Bakit walang gana kumanta ang beshy ko? Sana nag-hire na lang sila ng totoong singer na guwapo rin,” another one commented.

“Parang lasing ang performance. Pero ok lang `yan, bawi na lang sa ‘Maging Sino Ka Man’,” said another.

“Bashers will always be bashers. But no matter what they do, they can never put a good man down,” a netizen defended the actor.

Indeed, the Maria Clara and Ibarra star seemed to have exerted all his energy during the taping for his part in the upcoming remake of 1991 romantic-comedy-action movie Maging Sino Ka Man.

A report by Philippine Star announced that David will play the role of the film’s leading man formerly starred by actor-politician Robin Padilla together with Barbie Forteza who will shoulder the character of his love interest, previously portrayed by the “Megastar” Sharon Cuneta.

Sparkle, GMA-7’s talent agency, released their statement regarding their artist’s performance in a tweet last Saturday, July 15.

“Pambansang Ginoo David Licauco had a hectic Thursday, starting with the first taping day of #MagingSinoKaMan then he rushed to MOA Arena to perform at the Miss Grand Philippines 2023,” the agency wrote, accompanied by a photo and video taken on the set of the show.

Meanwhile, the Pambansang Ginoo’s binibini is unfazed by the hate comments and even expressed her ‘inggit’ towards Miss Grand candidates who were ‘graced’ by David’s serenade.

Binibining Klay took to social media her wish to Ginoong Fidel, “Pansin ko, ang dami mo ng nakantahan. Ako kaya, kelan mo kakantahan? @davidlicauco,” Barbie wrote to David.

“Akong bahala basta takpan mo lang ears mo ha,” David jokingly responded.

Barbie and David, popularly known as BarDa, previously starred as two star-crossed lovers in the hit historical time-travel Kapuso series Maria Clara and Ibarra.
