Andrea Brillantes addressed negative comments on her “promposal” to boyfriend Ricci Rivero at Blackpink’s Philippine concert.
Over the weekend, the couple stirred controversy online after Andrea successfully asked Ricci to be her Star Magic prom date during K-pop all-girl group’s Born Pink concert at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan on Sunday, March 26.
Andrea prepared banners written in English and Korean that read: “I just wanna ask Ricci Rivero, will you go to prom with Andrea?”.
It was Rosé who read the banners and asked Ricci to “Please go to prom with that girl.”
Ricci responded in the affirmative and even got congratulated by Lisa afterwards.
While others gush on Andrea’s “promposal”, some questioned why Andrea had to be the one to ask Ricci to the prom.
“Baliktad na pla ngayon panahon. Babae na nagyaya [lauging emoji],”commented a netizen.
Andrea, in response, simply explained: “It’s for #StarMagicalProm so yes, ako po talaga dapat dahil ako po yung artist ng Star Magic [smiling emoji]”.
The 20-year-old also left a reminder to “stop shaming girls for making the first move even on other instances”.
It can be recalled that Ricci pulled a similar stunt when he publicly asked Andrea to be his girlfriend after winning a UAAP game last April 2022.
Andrea’s older sister Kayla Aan Gorostiza, on the other hand, earlier defended the actress from bashers who deemed the Star Magic artist’s gesture “very papansin”.
“Artista siya yes, pero hindi ibig sabihin non eh bawal na siyang umasta na parang normal na tao.
“If ‘normal fan’ yan, y’all would saying ‘cute.’
“Gusto niya lang maging super special ng FIRST PROM NIYA. LET HER BE,” she said.
