Mike Enriquez on death hoax: ‘Fake news!’

Mike Enriquez is very much alive, fellow broadcaster Arnold “Igan” Clavio clarified, amid a death hoax that circulated online on Thursday.

“Mga minamahal, nakausap ko po si Ama, Mr. Mike Enriquez. Buhay na buhay at ang kanyang mensahe: FAKE NEWS!,” Arnold announced in a Facebook post.

The broadcast journalist also related to entertainment site Pep about Mike’s condition when he phoned him about the matter: “He’s well. Masigla ang boses nang makausap ko sa phone kanina.”

Arnold furthered that the GMA News pillar is set to return to 24 Oras following his prolonged absence in the network’s flagship newscast.

Mike took a medical leave of absence in December 2021 to undergo a medical procedure and returned to his anchor duties in March 2022 for GMA’s election coverage. However, he once again made no appearance in the said program in the past few months.

According to Pep, veteran actress Loly Mara and singer Richard Merk fell for the false death announcement on social media, writing their “condolences” in their now-deleted Facebook posts.

In a separate Facebook post, Loly aired her apologies over the matter, saying she got the false news about Mike’s supposed passing from a “few years ago”.

“Many condoled and no one said otherwise. I’m very very sorry if it was fake news. Pls forgive me Mike! Sabes que te quiero mucho mi amor!”
