Congratulations are in order for weightlifting gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and her longtime boyfriend and coach Julius Naranjo as they announced their engagement.
The couple on Saturday, October 16, took to their respective social media accounts to share the “magical” and “meaningful” moment.
“It’s YES!,” wrote Hidilyn in an Instagram post showing off her gold medal and gold ring.
The Olympian expressed how thankful she is for having Julius in her life.
“I’m grateful to God that He sent Julius into my life, he make my life easy, alam ng iba kung ano mga sinasakripisyo niya para maabot namin ang pangarap na Ginto sa Olympics together with #TeamHD,” said Hidilyn.
“Nun kinilig at masaya ako kasi siya mismo nagsabi God is the center of our relationship, kaya walang duda magYeYES ako dahil swerte ako may isang Julius nagmamahal, nagintindi, at sumoporta sakin,” she added.
Julius, on the other hand, posted a photo of Hildilyn holding out her medal with the gold ring worn in her hand.
“There’s a first for everything,” he wrote as caption.
The couple first met in 2017 and have been together for three years now.
Moments before his proposal to Hidilyn, Jullius shared the story behind the barbel-inspired engagement ring he designed for his fiancée.
“Manila Diamond Studio helped me design this for her. I told them to make it gold, because she won gold,” Julius said in a video shared by talent manager Noel Ferrer on Instagram.
“This is a barbell, and the engraved ‘Tokyo 2020’ inside the ring,” he added.
A closer look at the custom-made ring fit for Hidilyn was shared by jewelry company Manila Diamond Studio on Instagram.
“Philippines’ first olympic gold medalist, Hidalyn Diaz’s engagement ring, was inspired by @hidilyndiaz ’s love, strength and passion,” it wrote in the caption.
