WATCH: Rico Blanco releases acoustic version of Alab Ng Puso as tribute to Hidilyn Diaz

As a special thank you to our Olympian Hidilyn Diaz, Rico Blanco released an acoustic version of Rivermaya’s Alab ng Puso.  

The OPM band’s former frontman shared his disbelief that the country finally has an Olympic Gold medal, all thanks to the 30-year-old weightlifting sensation from Zamboanga City.  

Rico shared “Alab Ng Puso (Para Kay Hidilyn)” on his YouTube channel on Tuesday.  

“Alam niyo nang lahat na ang pagmamahal ko sa sports ay katumbas ng pagmamahal ko sa musika, minsan nga higit pa. Mula sa pagka bata ko iniisip ko kung kailan darating ang panahon. At dumating na nga ang panahon,”  he wrote in the description of his YouTube video.  

The singer said that the country’s first Olympic Gold medalist, did not just carry the record-breaking 127 kg for the clean and jerk segment, she also lifted the dreams of many Filipinos.  

“Hindi ko mapigil ang pag apaw ng inspirasyon mula sa kanya at nais kong magpasalamant lamang kaya’t agad agad kong ginawa at inaalay sa kanya ang recording na ito,” he said.

Hidilyn brought pride to the country after earning the gold medal in the women’s 55-kg weightlifting event.  

She successfully lifted 97 kg in snatch and 127 kg in her final lift in clean and jerk.
