Blackpink’s Ddu-Du Ddu-Du video surpasses 1 billion YouTube views

-

Global Kpop sensation Blackpink really did hit it with the song Ddu-du Ddu-du, earning one billion views on YouTube.

The quartet composed of Jennie, Lisa, Rosé and Jisoo made history after becoming the first-ever Kpop group to achieve the milestone on November 11.

The good news was shared by the group’s label YG Entertainment via Twitter on Monday evening.

The music video, which was released on June 15, 2018, took nearly 17 months to surpass the threshold. Ddu-Du Ddu-Du is a song from the group’s mini-album Square Up, which hit 10 million views six hours after its release.

Blackpink is the second K-pop act to reach the one billion mark on YouTube, after Kpop solo artist Psy whose mega-hit songs Gangnam Style and Gentleman hold over three billion and one billion views, respectively.

Boombayah and As If It’s Your Last are the girl group’s other music videos now approaching the one billion mark. Both currently have more than 700 million views on YouTube.

Blinks celebrated the historic moment with three hashtags trending all at once on Monday night.

Blackpink also won big at the recently concluded E! People Choice Awards including Best Group, The Music Video of 2019 for hit song “Kill This Love”, and The Concert Tour of 2019 award.
