Eduardo Roy Jr., the award-winning director behind the films Pamilya Ordinaryo, Fuccbois, Lola Igna, has passed away. He was 41.
According to his family, the director died of massive pulmonary embolism due to hospital acquired pneumonia. Edong, as he was fondly called in the film industry, was diagnosed late last year with Burkitt’s Lymphoma Stage IV.

“It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Eduardo ‘Edong’ Roy Jr. on February 21, 2022 at the Saint Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City. He died of massive pulmonary embolism due to hospital acquired pneumonia. He had been diagnosed late last year with Burkitt’s Lymphoma Stage IV.
“Edong was a beloved son, brother, and friend who’s also known as the writer and director of award winning films such as Bahay Bata, Quick Change, Pamilya Ordinaryo, Lola Igna, Fuccbois.
“A wake will be held on February 24 to 26, 2022 at the Arlington Memorial Chapels Hall A in G. Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.”
Colleagues and fellow directors have expressed grief and sympathies to the family he left behind.
Actor Kokoy de Santos paid tribute to the late director via throwback clips and photos, as well as a personal letter, shared in Instagram post. “Mahal kita direk Edong. Maraming salamat sa lahat. Hanggang sa Muli,” wrote Kokoy who starred in the director’s Oh Mando and Fuccbois.
Actor Alex Diaz, who starred in Oh Mando written by direk Edong, said in an Instagram story: “I’m at a loss for words. You lifted me out of a very dark place Direk. Oh Mando changed my life – changed my life. Thank you for everything, rest in peace.”
