Lea Salonga brought Pinoy pride to the Disney stage as she reunited with fellow actresses and singers who have brought beloved Disney princesses to life at the recent “Disney Princess: The Ultimate Concert Celebration” in California.
Dressed in a teal kimono-style ensemble, Salonga returned to one of her most iconic roles as she performed “Reflection” from the 1998 animated film “Mulan,” for which she provided the singing voice of the titular character.
The Broadway icon also met actress Ming-Na Wen, who had also lent her voice to “Mulan”, and posed for a photo together at the event.
“Yes I’m crying and you can too. 😭 So proud of my princess sisters!! Last night was an amazing performance. I can’t wait for you all to see it,” Ming-Na Wen captioned their photo on Instagram.
Lea also shared the stage with American singer-actress Brandy, who portrayed Cinderella in the 1997 television adaptation of the classic Disney story. The two performed “A Whole New World” from the 1992 animated film “Aladdin,” in which Salonga provided the singing voice of Princess Jasmine.
Salonga later shared a video of her “Reflection” performance on Instagram, where she received an outpouring of praise from fans and fellow artists.
“So much fun working with you again! Love you and Nic so much!!!” fellow theater star Loren Lott commented.
“You inspired so many little Filipina girls to dream. You ARE our Disney princess!” broadcaster Zen Hernandez wrote.
Another netizen praised Salonga for being a lasting part of many fans’ childhoods.
“There are voices you admire, and then there are voices permanently woven into your childhood. She doesn’t just sing these songs; she carries the magic, the nostalgia, and the spirit of these characters with her,” the comment read.
“You make me so proud to be Filipino!!! Thank you for continuously pursuing your career and representing us!” another fan added.
Salonga was also joined on the Disney California stage by several other performers associated with the franchise’s iconic princesses.
Jodi Benson and Halle Bailey, who portrayed Ariel in the animated and live-action versions of “The Little Mermaid,” respectively, performed a duet of “Part of Your World.”
Paige O’Hara, the original singing voice of Belle, and Susan Egan, who originated the role on Broadway, also took the stage for “Beauty and the Beast.”
Auli’i Cravalho and Catherine Laga’aia, who portray Moana in the animated and upcoming live-action adaptations, were also part of the celebration.
Judy Kuhn, the original singing voice of Pocahontas, performed “Colors of the Wind,” while Anika Noni Rose, the voice of Tiana in “The Princess and the Frog,” sang “Almost There.”
Salonga was officially named a Disney Legend in 2011, recognizing her contributions to Disney through her work as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine and Mulan.
