Korean star Byeon Woo Seok’s agency releases statement on ‘excessive’ security issue

Korean actor Byeon Woo Seok recently found himself at the center of a controversy over “excessive” security in the airport, and now, his agency has apologized.

The “Lovely Runner” and “Record of Youth” star faced backlash with the seemingly too much of a safety measure when it was deemed unnecessary.

On July 12, the actor left for the 2024 Asia Fan Meeting Tour “SUMMER LETTER.” After this, netizens expressed disapproval of the apparently “over-the-top” security that Byeon Woo Seok had.

In a recorded video, his security guard was seen using bright flashes despite no people actively trying to go in his direction. His security was also blocking passage although there was no imminent threat visible.

Due to the incident, the actor’s agency, VARO Entertainment, released a statement apologizing for the said circumstance.

The talent agency apologized for the inconvenience it has caused to other passengers or airport users that was affected by the stunt pulled by the security.

“We deeply apologize for any inconvenience caused to airport users due to security measures when our artist departed from Incheon International Airport on July 12,” VARO’s statement began.

They mentioned that the bodyguard who was using the flashlight was already instructed to dismiss such action.

“Upon learning that a security guard used a flashlight toward airport users, we immediately instructed him to cease this action,” the agency wrote.

“While we were not fully aware of the specific security situation at the gate, airline ticketing, and on-site security, we take full moral responsibility for any discomfort experienced during the security process. We sincerely apologize to those who were inconvenienced,” VARO explained.

Although admittedly not particularly aware of what exactly went down during the recorded incident, VARO highlighted that they are making efforts to make sure such incidents do not occur again.

“Moving forward, we will conduct more thorough checks and exercise greater caution to prevent similar inconveniences to airport users and the public. We apologize once again for any concern caused,” the entertainment company concluded in their statement.

TVN’s hit K-drama series stars Byeon Woo Seok and Kim Hye-yoon. Meanwhile, “Lovely Runner”, will be soon available on Netflix starting August.
