‘Kopyahan na eto!’: Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian on Pasig’s mobile palengke effort

Several local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila are taking immediate action to aid their people during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

After the entirety of Luzon was placed on lockdown, mayors of different cities have been stepping up their game. Among these officials that netizens have been praising is Valenzuela City’s Mayor Rex Gatchalian.

Prior to confirming three COVID-19 cases in Valenzuela, their LGU has already prepared two central isolation centers.

Apart from his other undertakings to serve his constituents, Gatchalian said he plans on copying Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto’s mobile palengke effort.

“Kopyahan na eto!!! Wala naman tayo sa school eh… in this case copying is allowed i think,” he said in a tweet.

Netizens agreed with Gatchalian’s sentiments, stating that adopting best practices is a good form of “kopyahan.”

“Exchange or sharing lang ng best practices and innovative ideas. Ito ang pinakamagandang kopyahan na gagawin.. Tama wala naman sa school.. Pero exam ito sa atin kung gaano ihahandle ang ganitong mahirap na situation,” a netizen said.

Another commended the two mayors for helping each other: “Tama, hindi ito yung tamang oras na magpaligsahan mayor. Bagkus magtulungan po.”

When Sotto launched Pasig’s mobile palengke effort, he acknowledged a netizen saying other LGUs were first to implement the project.

“Hindi lang po kami ang may mobile palengke! May ibang LGU na nauna sa min!”

On March 16, Sotto followed Gatchalian’s move and announced an Anti-Panic Buying and Hoarding ordinance in Pasig City.

In Sotto’s tweet, he thanked the City of Valenzuela for providing them an example for the ordinance.
