Kris Aquino calls public appearance on EDSA People Power anniversary ‘perfect coming out’

Former presidential daughter and sister Kris Aquino made her return to public eye after coming home to the Philippines last year amid her ongoing battle with multiple autoimmune diseases.

The TV host attended the PeopleAsia People of the Year 2025 awards night as a show of support for her friend, fashion designer Michael Leyva, who was among the event’s honorees.

Kris walked the red carpet together with Michael dressed in a vibrant yellow top paired with a floral skirt and a pink blazer, completing her look with a yellow face mask and pink eyeglasses. She was also accompanied by her son Bimby, along with her doctor and three nurses, as reported by PeopleAsia.

In a video shared by GMA News on Facebook, Kris expressed her gratitude for Leyva’s unwavering support and mainting their close bond, saying, “There are people who say, ‘I’ll be there for you’ or ‘maaasahan mo ako,’ but Michael has proven it countless times and in so many ways.”

Aquino also reflected on the significance of her public reappearance, which coincided with the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution—a historic event where her late parents, Ninoy Aquino and former president Cory Aquino, played pivotal roles.

“I actually thought today is the 24th, tomorrow pa’ yung 25,” she said. “Michael was the one who told me. So, sabi ko, ‘Perfect! What a perfect coming out.'”

Earlier this month, Aquino revealed that she has been diagnosed with seven autoimmune diseases and declared herself as “not yet fit to work” following news about her return to showbiz with a new talk show.
