Mother from Parañaque gets emotional after reunion with OFW son
After staying for four straight years in Japan, this overseas Filipino worker from Parañaque City prepared a plan to surprise his family.
Christian Mangunay initially planned to invite his parents to the airport to get a “package,” but due to the strict quarantine measures in the country, he decided to go for a plan b.
As an alternative, Christian then asked his sister Rea to help him create a scenario at home in order to pull off his surprise for their parents.
“The whole family is aware na December 2021 makakapagbakasyon na siya, pero kami lang talaga dalawa ng brother ko magkausap about sa surprise,” Rea said.
After his mandatory quarantine, Christian went straight to their home to pull off a simple yet touching surprise reunion.
After he was able to surprise his family, his mother, Eva became emotional and couldn’t let go of him following their reunion.
“So Plan B, Food Panda surprise, kaso walang kasya sa brother ko na uniform dahil maliit ‘yung friend niya na [nagwowowrk dun]. Nung Nov. 2, biglang lumabas ‘yung result ng swab at makakauwi na sa wakas. Inaya ko ‘yung parents namin na mamalenke kasi may gusto ako ipaluto, pero para talaga sa brother ko ‘yung lulutuin,” Rea recalled.
“‘Yung brother ko naman nagpasundo na lang sa friend niya. Pagdating namin sa bahay, nagmessage na din brother ko na nasa labas na sila. Si youngest brother ‘yung nakawhite t-shirt at humabol, nakabreak from work, so ang sabi ko na lanfg ‘Ma, Pa, nasa labas na daw ‘yung package ni Tantan’. So lumabas na kaming lahat, inopen ko na lang ‘yung camera ko para magvideo pero ang totoo hindi ko na alam kung anong surprise ang mangyayari,” Rea narrated.
Christian has been working at a solar company in Japan for four years. He was scheduled to come home in October 2020 but the COVID-19 pandemic happened.
The emotional reunion video was uploaded on social media with more than 16 million views.
“Ramdam naman po siguro sa mga boses nmin na nagiiyakan kami. Super proud din ako sa brother ko, lahat naman kami proud kaming lahat kung ano man mga na achieve namin sa ngayon,” Rea said.
Young boy goes viral for his emotional reaction to family’s birthday surprise
On Christmas Day, this young boy thought that he would have a simple celebration with his family. However, his father, Jong Siochi, went all out since they were not able to spend time together since the pandemic started.
“Ang alam lang nila mag simple dinner lang kami ng December 24 then magsisimba at dadalhin ko sila sa Manila to stay in my condo for Christmas para iwas sa visitor. Pero nagulat na lang sila dahil nagkaroon sila ng instant birthday celebration. Nag potluck kami,” Jong recalled.
10-year-old Niño thought that the money cake was only the surprise of his family – until he saw an iPhone X inside his BTS-themed birthday cake.
At first, Niño was happy and delighted when he started pulling out peso bills from his cake but when he realized that there was more, he became emotional.
“Napakabait na bata ni Niño consistent with honors meron siyang phone pero weekend lang niya nagagamit. Lagi kong sinasabi sa kanya, kapag teenager ka na saka kita bibigyan ng magandang phone,” Jong said.
Jong added his son had no idea with the surprise, saying: “Kaya siguro siya napaiyak, kasi talagang hindi niya expected na may phone sa loob ng cake. At ‘yun ang ultimate dream niya.”
Jong said that his son had only been using an old iPhone 5s. On his son’s birthday, he gave him his old iPhone X and P10,000.
The viral video posted on social media now has more than 400,000 views.
