Netflix unveils new cast members for Squid Game’s new season

Netflix revealed the new faces who will play in the new season of the hit survival Korean series Squid Game. 

Squid Game: Season 2 revealed its new players in their latest Netflix trailer released on Sunday, June 18.

“Sing it with me: Mugunghwa kkochi piotsseumnida! Players, on your mark! Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo will all be returning for Squid Game season 2,” Netflix wrote in the caption on their Facebook post.

Among the actors who will play the death game’s characters are Yim Si-Wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-Hoon, and Yang Dong-Geun. 

The trailer also teased the reappearance of familiar faces from the previous season including actors Lee Jung‑jae’s Gi Hun, Wi Ha‑joon’s Hwang Jun Ho, Lee Byung Hun’s Frontman, and the unnamed character of Gong Yoo. 

Squid Game is written and directed by South Korean filmmaker Hwang Dong-hyuk. It tells the story of cash-strapped contestants who accepted a cryptic invitation to compete in ‘children’s games’ in exchange for a tempting prize but with a deadly twist. 

In its release on Netflix, the show became a viral hit pulling 1.65 billion hours of viewing in 28 days following its premiere on September 17, 2021, making it one of the most-watched series on the streaming platform. 

The second season is slated to release on the streaming platform in 2024.
