Mexican telenovela star Thalia, popular for playing Marimar in the ’90s, seemingly reconnected with her Filipino fans after she did a cover of “Pasumpa-sumpa ka pa” on TikTok.
The 48-year-old singer and actress shared the short clip on the video-sharing app where she gamely lip-synched the Tagalog lyrics which also include some swear words.
She captioned the video “Love is AMOR in any language”, with the hashtags #mabuhay, #pasumpasumpa, and #tagalog.
Other netizens found the video funny, wondering if Thalia knew what the lyrics meant since she “just cursed in Pinoy language”.
The video garnered 20,000 likes with Filipinos commenting how they miss the Latina artist.
Thalia has been keeping her fans entertained during the quarantine via Tiktok with the handle @Thalia which has over two million followers.
Aside from Marimar, Thalia also captured the hearts of Filipino fans with her other popular telenovelas like Rosalinda, Maria Mercedes and Maria Del Barrio.
Several of her telenovelas later had Filipino adaptations, including two GMA 7 versions of Marimar starring Marian Rivera and Megan Young.
