Mercy Sunot, one of the vocalists of the OPM powerhouse band Aegis, passed away a few days after undergoing a critical lung surgery.
Mercy’s death was confirmed on Monday morning, in a post shared on her band’s official Facebook page, prompting an outpouring of grief from fans and tributes from local radio stations.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Mercy, one of the beloved vocalists of AEGIS Band. She bravely fought her battle with cancer but has now found peace and rest,” the band announced.
“Mercy’s voice wasn’t just a part of AEGIS—it was a voice that brought comfort, joy, and strength to so many. She has touched countless lives, inspiring fans and lifting spirits with every song she sang. Her passion, warmth, and unforgettable presence on stage will forever be cherished in our hearts,” the statement read, paying tribute to the legendary songstress who brought life to timeless hits like “Halik” and “Luha.”

Fellow singer Laarni Lozada, dubbed as the country’s “Ethereal Diva”, mourned the loss of the iconic songstress whom she regarded as one of her idols.

Mercy’s final social media post, shared just two days before her passing, has since gone viral, wherein she asked for prayers for recovery.
In the post, the singer candidly shared her battle with breast and lung cancer.

Mercy revealed she had undergone a successful operation and was recovering when she experienced difficulty breathing, leading to an emergency admission to the intensive care unit (ICU).
“Biglang nahirapan akong huminga, so dinala ako sa ICU. May tubig pala, may inflammation ‘yung lungs ko, so ginagawan na nila ng paraan,” she said in a TikTok video.
Despite her health struggles, Mercy remained optimistic, sharing how doctors worked to manage her condition by removing fluid from her lungs and administering steroids to reduce inflammation.
Towards the end of her video, the singer tearfully appealed to her followers, saying, “Pag-pray niyo ako guys, please. Pag-pray niyo ako na matatapos na ‘tong pagsubok na ‘to.”
