Eldrew, Elaiza dismiss ‘sibling rivalry’ with brother Carlos Yulo

Amid double Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo’s much publicized rift with his family, his younger siblings Eldrew and Elaiza stressed that there is no sibling rivalry among them.

Eldrew and Elaiza, who are following the footsteps of Carlos, a.k.a., “Caloy,” in the field of gymnastics, revealed in an interview with Bilyonaryo News Channel that their “kuya” has influenced them to join gymnastics.

The two recalled going to the gym and watching their kuya train, eventually inspiring them to give the sport a try.

“Maybe it’s because of our brother po kasi lagi po kami dinadala sa gym. Kada-training po pumupunta po kami sa gym tapos pinapanood po namin sila [pati] sa mga competitions nanoood po kami,” shared Elaiza.

“Na-inspire po kami dahil din po sa kanila and nagustuhan din po namin kaya po namin pinursue ‘yung gymnastics,” furthered Eldrew.

They also seek advice and tips from their kuya, particularly on the techniques they could use for the sport.

Carlos’ younger siblings also talked about how the world champion gymnast is as a brother.

“Kapag may problema po, siya po ako siya po lagi ‘yung tinatakbuhan ko ko,” said Elaiza, sharing that her kuya is not the strict type.

“Hindi po (strict), makulit ‘yun…ka-vibe lang po namin,” she added.

While Carlos has been away from his family due to his estranged relationship with his mom, Angelica Yulo, Elaiza and Eldrew recalled bonding and spending time with their “kuya” by watching TV and going out together.

Just like their kuya, the Yulo siblings who are poised to join the Olympics in the future, have also been making names for themselves with their wins in several local and national gymnastics competitions.

Eldrew also clinched gold medal in the 2024 Asian Gymnastics Union Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Uzbekistan.

In 2022, Elaiza and Eldrew bagged the gold and silver medal in the Junior Individual All-Around categories, respectively at the JRC Artistic Gymnastics Stars Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.

Carlos, on the other hand, is also looking forward to competing in the quadrennial major sports event with his siblings.

“I’m really hoping po and praying for that na matuloy po [Team Yulo],” Carlos said in an interview with ABS-CBN in August.
