Brother of Rico Yan reacts to viral trend of late actor

Bobby Yan, the older brother of the late actor Rico Yan, has addressed the recent online trend that showed netizens visiting the grave of the beloved ’90s heartthrob.

ABS-CBN News reached out Yan’s family through an exclusive interview by entertainment reporter MJ Felipe, following the circulating photos and videos of fans visiting the resting place of the deceased matinee idol in Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City.

Rico’s older brother communicated that their family would not issue an official statement at this time. He shared that they have been in contact with the caretaker of Rico’s tomb, who told them that there’s “nothing to be concerned about, for now.”

However, Bobby mentioned that the family would take action if the activities at the cemetery would start to disturb neighboring mausoleums.

For now, Bobby expressed a welcoming attitude towards the visitors, saying, “We welcome po anyone from anywhere. We have visitors from abroad visit Rico’s tomb and there are visitors weekly since 22 years ago.”

He emphasized that Rico, known for his role as a youth ambassador in the past, had a heart for the youth, and the family believes he would not turn away his admirers who are noticeably mostly Gen Zs.

Rico passed away in March 2002 at the age of 27 due to acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis.
