Kapamilya actress-singer Janella Salvador found herself the subject of online criticism after refusing to do a “sample” during her recent It’s Showtime appearance due to having a hoarse voice.

On Tuesday, April 2, Janella, alongside her on-screen partner, Thai actor Win Metawin, graced the Kapamilya noontime show to promote their upcoming romantic film, “Under Parallel Skies.”

During the show, Salvador also mentioned her upcoming concert and her latest single, “Headtone.”

After the promotional segment, It’s Showtime host Kim Chiu requested a “sample” or a snippet from the singer to which the latter declined because of her current condition.

“Medyo paos ako today, kayo na lang. Next time, promise,” Janella told the hosts.

This response didn’t escape the playful banter of comedian Vice Ganda who later jokingly remarked about Janella’s voice during the “ExPecially For You” segment, saying, “Medyo paos siya ngayon, kayo na lang.”

The reaction from Janella’s co-hosts showed surprise, with Kim opting to laugh it off.

Despite the supposedly light-hearted exchange, the incident sparked discussions on social media platforms with some netizens taking Janella’s refusal as “rude” and “disrespectful” towards the hosts.

On the other hand, some netizens swiftly came to Janella’s defense, pointing out respecting the artist’s physical condition and personal boundaries. Others also held the hosts accountable for putting the celebrity mom in a bad light.

Meanwhile, both Janella and the It’s Showtime hosts have yet to comment on the issue.
