Robin Padilla laughs off criticisms over wife Mariel’s IV drip in his senate office

Senator Robin Padilla sees nothing wrong with his wife Mariel Padilla getting her IV drip therapy at his office in the Senate.

Mariel drew flak online after posting photos of seated on her senator husband’s office chair while having her IV drip session, flexing the procedure’s convenience.

Amid the criticisms, Robin came to the defense of his wife, saying there was “no intention of disrespect” in the now-deleted photos from Mariel’s Instagram account.

“Nakakatawa naman po ang political issue na ‘yan. My goodness! Kung may nakita po silang masama sa larawan na ‘yan, paumanhin po. No intention of disrespect,”  Padilla said in a statement.

“My wife loves to promote good looks and good health. Natatawa talaga ako,” he added.

Senator Nancy Binay, who chairs the Ethics Committee, meanwhile, called Mariel’s act “bothersome”.

“I’m not sure if the Ethics Committee can extend its jurisdiction dito sa nangyaring insidente since hindi naman member ng Senado si Ms. Mariel. But we also need to closely look into it because it involves issues of conduct, integrity, and reputation of the Institution and matters that concern health and safety,” said Binay in a statement.

She also released a statement on Facebook, reminding public figures to be responsible on what they promote on social media.

“As public figures, sana aware din tayo sa responsabilidad natin sa publiko. We might be promoting something na ipinagbabawal at iligal, at akala ng mga tao eh okey lang. Isipin din natin may kasamang kapanagutan ang pagiging artista, lalo na kung senador ang asawa mo,” said Binay.

Earlier this year, the Department of Health warned the public against the use of intravenous (IV) glutathione, citing its risks of toxic effects on the liver, kidneys, and nervous system. The said procedure has also not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
