Parasite actor Lee Sun Gyun dies

Trigger warning: Mention of suicide

South Korean actor Lee Sun Gyun who starred in Oscar-winning film Parasite has passed away.

Citing a police report, Soompi on Wednesday stated Sun Gyun was found unconscious inside a parked car in Seoul’s Waryong Park.

Authorities rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call from his wife who discovered an apparent suicide note at their home.

Police also found evidence of lit charcoal briquettes inside Sun Gyun’s car, “further suggesting that his death may have been a suicide,” added Soompi.

The report furthered that the late actor has been under investigation by police on charges of illegal drug use since October.

Sun Gyun received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for his role in Parasite.

He also starred in the TV series My Mister (2018), Coffee Prince (2007), and most recently, in the mystery thriller film Sleep.
