‘From Luka to Luka’: Basketball star Luka Doncic gifts FIBA trophy to Pinoy child named after him

These lucky parents shared a heartwarming moment with NBA sensation Luka Doncic after letting him know that their child was named after him.

Former PBA player Prince Rivero and his wife Lesley Martinez shared their core memory with the 24-year-old Dallas Mavericks forward on Instagram.

The couple, being fans of Doncic, had expressed their delight after attending all three of his games. During all matches, they proudly brought and displayed their huge banner bearing the message “LUKA, we named our son after you.”

In the third and final game, their very own Baby Luka was able to tag along with his parents along with a new banner that read “LUKA, I was named after you.”

The encounter took place on Friday night, September 8, during the FIBA World Cup 2023 game between Slovenia and Italy, Doncic’s last match before leaving the country.

A video uploaded on the Instagram pages of the FIBA Basketball World Cup and NBA captured the Slovenian player sharing his limelight with Baby Luka as he handed over his TCL Player of the Game trophy.

The moment garnered attention from both local and international basketball communities, praising Doncic for his humility and kindness towards his fans.

On another note, it also turns out that Baby Luka has deep roots in showbiz being the grandson of veteran actor Leo Martinez who currently stars in GMA’s hit drama series Abot Kamay ang Pangarap.

In a now-expired Instagram story, Leo took pride in his grandson’s interaction with the basketball star, saying, “Binigay ni Luka Doncic ang trophy niya sa apo ko”.

Baby Luka’s mom is the actor’s daughter with Gina Valenciano Martinez, sister of Gary Valenciano.
