ASTRO members visit Moonbin’s wake; K-pop community mourns death of singer

Arohas and the K-pop community are mourning following the sudden demise of ASTRO member Moonbin.

Korean media outlets stated early Thursday that according to a Seoul Gangnam Police Station report, the idol was found dead by his manager at his residence in the Gangnam district on Wednesday night, April 19.

Moonbin’s management agency Fantagio later confirmed and relayed the “sorrowful and heartbreaking news” to fans through an official statement.

“On April 19, ASTRO member Moonbin suddenly left us and has now become a star in the sky,” read Fantagio’s statement as translated to English by Soompi

“Although it cannot compare to the grief of the bereaved family that had to part with their beloved son and brother, his fellow artists and the staff here at Fantagio, who have been together with him for a long time, are also deeply mourning the departed amidst tremendous shock and sorrow,” h

“It pains us even more to have to convey this sudden news to the fans who have given their unsparing love and support to Moonbin. Because we know all too well just how unparalleled the departed [Moonbin] was in his love for his fans, whom he was constantly thinking of, the grief is all the more overwhelming.

The agency also asked the public to refrain from speculative or malicious reports as a respect to the bereaved family.

Moonbin’s funeral will be held privately with family, close friends, and agency colleagues.

Soompi added in a report on Thursday that Moonbin’s bandmates Jinjin and Sanha are “currently looking over his wake”, while MJ took a military leave to visit the late singer’s wake. Cha Eun Woo, on the other hand, is flying back from the United States.

Meanwhile, Billie, the Kpop girl group where Moonbin’s younger sister Moon Sua is a member of, had also canceled its scheduled activities for the week following the singer-actor’s passing.

Moonbin last visited the Philippines on March 25 for his and Sanha’s sub-unit fan concert at the New Frontier in Quezon City.

An outpour of condolences from K-pop fans has since taken over social media following Moonbin’s passing.
