Philip Salvador, Chavit Singson draw boos at ‘Trillion Peso March’ in EDSA

-

Veteran actor Phillip Salvador and former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson joined the nationwide anti-corruption rallies, but their presence drew boos from the protesters who converged along EDSA.

In a TikTok video, Salvador was seen attending the “Trillion Peso March,” while voices in the crowd chanted “Bawal epal!” and “Umuwi ka na!”

The actor is known as a staunch supporter of former president Rodrigo Duterte, who’s currently detained at The Hague in the Netherlands and charged with three counts of murder in connection to his administration’s crackdown on drugs. Salvador previously ran for senator under Duterte’s political party in the 2025 elections but lost.

According to “24 Oras,” the “Trillion Peso March,” on the other hand, was organized by such groups as Siklab, Church Leaders Council for National Transformation, Tindig Pilipinas, Akbayan Party, Kalipunan, at Nagkaisa Labor Coalition. Several of these groups are, likewise, known to be critics of the elder Duterte and his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte.

Singson, meanwhile, faced chants of “Ikulong na ’yan!” and “Kadiri ang kurakot!” as police escorted him at the same rally.

The businessman and former politician, who has publicly supported the Dutertes and has recently been critical of President Marcos, responded in a Rappler interview: “Halo-halo walang pagkakaisa. Dapat merong pagkakaisa,” when asked about the crowd.

In a recent press conference, Singson also urged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) to begin its flood-control probe in Ilocos Norte, claiming projects in the province were allegedly awarded to firms owned by controversial contractor couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya.

Besides EDSA, anti-corruption rallies also took place in Luneta, Liwasang Bonifacio, Mendiola and Camp Aguinaldo and nationwide, reportedly drawing tens of thousands of protesters, including celebrities and public figures such as Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis, Donny Pangilinan and Elijah Canlas.
