Antoinette Jadaone reveals That Thing Called Tadhana is an assortment of real-life encounters

In a Facebook live script reading and Q&A with the artists behind That Thing Called Tadhana, director Antoinette Jadaone shared how the film is an assortment of day-to-day encounters.

The 35-year-old filmmaker said among her films, TTCT’s script was one of the easiest to write.

“Isa sa mabilis na nasulat kong script kasi may parts na mga kwento ko, kwento ng mga kaibigan ko, kwento ng mga kaibigan ng kaibigan, mga narinig ko sa coffee shop ganyan,” she said.

Jadaone spilled a little on how she wrote “the ultimate hugot film of 2015.” She shared that every time she encounters stories from friends or strangers, she would immediately write them down on her notebook or laptop.

This collection of stories are what created the blockbuster romance-comedy film.

Mace and Anthony’s iconic airport scene was actually from Jadaone’s experience in a European airport.

During a trip, Jadaone said she noticed people in the airport throw out clothes to avoid having excess baggage.

“What if kaya mayroong isang tao na mag offer na sa kanya na lang ilagay yung damit para di na siya ma-excess baggage?” she asked herself.

For the film, she recreated the encounter she had with an overseas Filipino worker who asked if they could place a couple of items in her luggage to eliminate excess baggage.

The Facebook live event featuring Jadaone, Angelica Panganiban and JM de Guzman is part of Lockdown Cinema Club’s initiative to raise funds to help members of the freelance filmmaking community who are affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.
