Veteran actress Jaclyn Jose passes away

Veteran actress Jaclyn Jose has passed away.

The late actress’ sudden death on March 2, 2024, was confirmed by her talent management team, PPL Entertainment, early Monday morning, March 4.

Jaclyn, whose real name was Mary Jane Guck, was 60 years old, according to PPL.

“The Guck and Eigenmann families are requesting for everyone to please pray for the eternal repose of Miss Jaclyn Jose and for them to be allowed the respect and privacy to mourn her passing, and navigate these difficult times,” PPL Entertainment said in its social media posts.

No other details were disclosed about the actress’ death.

Best known for her antagonist roles, Jaclyn last appeared on screen via FPJ’s Batang Quiapo as Chief Espinas.

She won her highest acting honor when she became the first Filipino and Southeast Asian talent to win Best Actress for her leading role as a drug-dealing mother in Brillante Mendoza’s Ma’Rosa at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.

At that time, Jaclyn said that to have her daughter Andi Eigenmann, who also played her daughter in the film, personally witness her win made the experience more overwhelming.

She was quoted in The STAR interview: “They said they never thought that an actor from my country would be spontaneous as well. Sabi ni Kirsten (Dunst, jury member) sa elevator… she was touched because she thought it was a beautiful speech, and that grabbing my daughter’s hand and not letting go of her, dun daw (nanggaling) yung emotion nila.”

“To have your daughter beside you while winning such a prestigious honor as this is such a wonderful feeling. Siguro yun yung (mas) overwhelming para sa akin.”

Jaclyn is survived by her son Gwen, daughter Andi, and grandchildren Ellie, Lilo, and Knoa.
